Automatic Sample Line-up D-line's iconic "rock and roll" semi-automatic sample line-up. Sample line-up is crucial for GISAXS: the effective cross section of the sample under grazing incidence is only around 50 microns, similar to the vertical beamsize. That's the diameter of a human hair, and so it boils down to line up a hair with a hair. Due to the variety of GISAXS set-ups, there is also a variety of line-up methods. Highly beneficial is to measure the exact incident angle and x-ray reflectivity around the sample critical angle, as this is important input for modelling of the scattering data. Automizing this procedure helps tremendously with beamline productivity and ease of use.
